Municipal Court

Civil ordinance violations, parking and mobility notices, hearings, and civil ceremonies.

Overview

The City of AI Municipal Court hears civil violations of the city's Code of Ordinances, parking and mobility notices, false-alarm appeals, and conducts marriage and civil-union ceremonies. The court does not hear criminal cases — those proceed in the Maine District Court for AI County.

Resolve a notice

  • Parking and mobility notices — pay, contest, or request a hearing online at Resolve a Notice or in person at the Court Clerk's counter
  • Code enforcement citations — contest at an Administrative Hearing under Chapter 1.14
  • Habitability complaint appeals — heard before a court-appointed hearing officer

Request a hearing

Hearings must be requested within 21 days of the notice issue date. Submit a written request through the online portal or by mail to the Court Clerk. Hearings are normally scheduled within 45 days and may be held in person at Civic Hall or virtually. Continuances are granted once on request; further continuances require good cause.

Schedule a marriage or civil-union ceremony

The Court conducts civil ceremonies in the courtroom and at outdoor sites by permit. Maine marriage licenses are issued by the City Clerk in Civic Hall, Room 110 (separate from the Court). Ceremony fees:

  • Courtroom ceremony, business hours: $75
  • Courtroom ceremony, evening or Saturday: $150
  • Off-site (Lovelace Park, Boole Garden, Liskov Riverwalk pavilion): $200 plus park use fee

Search public case files

Adjudicated civil cases are searchable on the Public Records and Data portal. Pending hearings and personal information of parties are redacted. Sealed and juvenile cases are not available.
